Ireland prepares for iPad

Ireland to get iPad

The iPad is to go on sale in Ireland and eight more countries this week, it has been confirmed.

Apple has announced that its tablet will be available in Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand and Mexico from Friday, July 23rd 2010. The device will only be available from select Apple Authorised Resellers.

Can the iPad momentum hold?

Business analysts will be keenly watching the next stage of the rollout to see if the iPad’s momentum is holding firm. The tablet was initially launched in the US on April 3rd. Unexpectedly strong demand forced Apple to postpone the release of the device into other core markets, which was scheduled for late April; the iPad finally went on sale in the UK and elsewhere on May 28th.

The iPad enables users to download apps and browse the web. They can also watch HD videos, send emails, share photos, listen to music and read e-books bought from the new iBooks store. Portability is one of the key selling points of the device, with the iPad measuring 13.4mm thick and weighing 0.68 kg.

Apple will be hoping that the iPad launch will generate some positive media coverage for the company after a turbulent few weeks. The iPhone 4 was released in the UK on June 24th but, within days, thousands of buyers were complaining about loss of signal strength. Responding to the criticism, Apple recently announced that every owner would be entitled to claim a free iPhone 4 case.
