Our clients now include SMEs, PLCs and Multi-nationals, and we generate over 2.4 million visitors to our clients sites in the last year.

Director Al Mackin was named as one of the Crains Manchester Business Forty under Forty, recognising his success at theEword, whilst both Al and Tom were named in the Insider Magazine 42 under 42.

About Search Engine Optimisation

How do you choose the right Search Engine Optimisation company in Manchester?

You´ve heard people talking about it and you´re guessing it´s a good thing, right? But what exactly is SEO? And how can it help your business?

SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, is a very simple concept that requires fairly complex understanding and technical manipulation to achieve good results. The basic idea behind SEO is the concept that the higher your website appears in the results on a search engine page, the more visitors your site will get. So, for example, if you sell teapots through your website, when someone types ´teapot´ into Google, you would want your site to be at the top of the results list so it´s most visible to the potential customer. Getting your site to the top of that list is what good SEO is all about.

Ok, so those are the basics, but how does it actually work? Unfortunately the online world doesn´t work quite as fluidly as the real world. We can´t just take Google out for lunch, be nice to them, maybe slip them a couple of twenties under the table and the job´s done, you´re at the top of the list. Even if we could get a lunch date with the SEO of Google, there´s little they themselves could do anyway because search engine results rely on complex mathematical formulas and algorithms in order to present the user with a list of millions of results in less than a second, not the actions or decisions of any one person. Put simply, it´s not humans we have to persuade to put your website at the top of the list, it´s computers. And computers, as we all know, don´t work rationally or apply common sense, they work with mathematics and science, and if you want to get a computer to do what you want it to do, you have to play its game.

SEO - learn the rules of the game

As the old adage goes, in order to be able to play the game you have to understand the rules, which is where SEO optimisers, such as us, really come into their own. If you know what search engines are looking for you can, with subtle manipulation of coding, content and some savvy work with links, play into their hands and make them believe your site is worth putting at the top of the list. And that, in the faceless, personality-void world of the internet, is what it´s all about. Search engines don´t care if your teapots are the best, or worst, in the world. They care about how your site has been made, how efficient the coding is and the density and proliferation of keywords. If you can get all that right, or rather have someone like us get it right for you, you´ll be climbing your way up to the top of the results page in no time at all and the teapots will be flying out of the door.

So exactly which search engine optimisation strategies do theEword SEO Manchester employ in order to make websites as visible as possible to Google and other search engine providers? It might perhaps be tempting to throw every technique or trick in the book at a website and hope that one element of the optimisation has the desired effect, and indeed many search engine optimisation companies do proffer this approach. However, we believe that it is far better to take a more targeted path. The best SEO is that which is tailored to a specific website - there are no universals in SEO. What works for one site might not be the best strategy for another, so it is important to do some research first.

SEO Manchester - with good research comes great results

If we follow the analogy that search engine optimisation is like a game whose rules we need to learn to be successful, then logic states that companies and their respective markets each present us with a different set of rules we must pick up too. In order to perform well in any given field, it is natural that we would want to know as much as possible about it before we start working in it. To that end, theEword SEO Manchester carries out exhaustive research of all its clients' markets before commencing work on any project. This investigative work might include, but would not be limited to, competitor analysis, keyword mining and a full review of all the possible search engine optimisation strategies that could be employed in order to achieve results. Once this SEO groundwork has been done, the task of carrying out search engine optimisation on a website becomes a whole lot easier. Initial research is to SEO what a visit to the armoury is to a warrior; it enables us to arm ourselves with the knowledge and tools (or 'weapons') needed to succeed in the search engine results pages (the 'battleground').

We have established that there are no universal, 'one-size-fits-all' rules to search engine optimisation and that the best SEO approach is a tailored one. However, there are generally accepted guidelines towards best practice that help inform the work carried out by companies such as theEword SEO Manchester. As with any marketing strand, these guidelines are subject to trends and sometimes undergo subtle changes. New techniques are introduced to complement or form part of existing strategies, while older ones that may no longer be as effective as they once were are retired to make way. The underlying principle behind them all, however, remains the same: to ensure that each website is as efficient and accessible in its coding and content as possible, so as to satisfy the needs of both search engines and site visitors. If you can stay abreast of the latest SEO best practice - or better still, trust a company such as theEword SEO Manchester to keep up-to-date with the most effective search engine optimisation strategies - you will be well on your way to winning the battle and putting your website where you want it to be: high up in the listings and in front of a huge potential audience, with all the sales and success that could bring.
