US blog sold for $15 million

A leading American entertainment blog, Deadline Hollywood Daily.com, has been sold for a deal reportedly worth $15 (£9) million. The site, which was created by respected US journalist Nikki Finke, has been bought by media-conglomerate Mail Media Corporation.

Deadline Hollywood Daily is considered to be one of the leading entertainment industry blogs in America. The website has been providing daily reports and exclusive news stories since its launch in 2005.

Finke, who has worked for the Los Angeles Times, Newsweek and New York Magazine, assured readers that she would remain in control of the site’s content. Finke said in a recent blog post regarding the takeover:

“Deadline Hollywood Daily.com will continue to be an independent editorial voice – and I would retain complete control over everything reported on the website -- so that DHD’s credibility with its readers could remain intact.”

Expanding the site's readership

Deadline Hollywood Daily is the latest entertainment website to be purchased by Mail Media Corporation. The company also owns Movieline.com and Hollywoodlife.com.

Jay Penske, founder and CEO of Mail Media Corporation said the takeover would expand the reach and audience of the site. He said:

"Ever since the first scoop of Nikki’s that I read, I quickly realized that she has raised the bar on – if not changed the game of – entertainment journalism; and her work perfectly embodies our mission at Mail Media Corporation; to provide the most original and most authoritative content on the web.”
