UK search in February
UK search engine market share stats for February 2012 have been released by digital intelligence service Experian Hitwise.
For the four weeks ending 4th February 2012, Google.com and Google.co.uk achieved a combined total of 90.84 per cent of search volume. This is slightly down compared to its very favourable January 2012 search engine market share, but remains higher than its share at the end of 2011. Meanwhile, other search engines managed to marginally boost their market share in the same four-week period. Bing received 3.78 per cent of search volume, Yahoo 2.31 and Ask 1.83 per cent of UK search volume.
Some of the fastest rising search terms for the week ending 4th Feb include transfer deadline day rumours and footballer Thomas Eisfeld, snow warnings, and the Happy Mondays reunion tour that was announced for May 2012.
Google changing constantly
It has been a busy month for Google, with 17 tweaks made to the search algorithm including yet another Google Panda update. There were changes to the user experience too, with the introduction of the controversially self-serving Search plus Your World. Rival companies including Twitter and Facebook blasted the search giant for favouring Google+ pages and profiles in results, even when the user is logged out .
Over in the US meanwhile, Google.com received 66.84 per cent of US search volume, a big gain on last month, while Yahoo boasts 14.46 and Bing catches up with 12.98 per cent.
