Mashup allows Facebook/MySpace collaboration
Once the bitterest of social media rivalries, MySpace and Facebook have now teamed up to allow content-sharing between users.
Mashup with Facebook lets those still using MySpace create a personalised stream of entertainment content pulled from Facebook likes and interest. It's a simple one-click process, and MySpace CEO Mike Jones is "excited" by the options it offers its patrons.
He explained: "So many people will be able to have the immediate satisfaction of enjoying their own entertainment program that they have customized themselves as well as connecting to all their passions and to the Myspace community at large."
The news solidifies Facebook's status as the number one social media platform. This week the company announced plans to become the world's top email provider by integrating both email and SMS into its messaging service.
Formerly Project Titan, now Facebook Messages (apparently the 'Gmail killer' among employees), the service is being primed to cut out the middle man when it comes to communication, although more cynical observers may point to Google's attempt to introduce social networking to its Gmail service earlier this year as an indication that social media and email simply do not mix.
Facebook founder and movie-muse Mark Zuckerberg revealed that he would like to see Facebook Messages become the central hub for text messaging, online chats and email, although he was keen to stress that the project has not been established to aggressively target email providers.
