Google dominates smartphone landscape
Google has emerged as the most popular brand on mobiles, as independent figures reveal its properties are visited by an astonishing 96.9 per cent of all smartphone users.
The finding has been published by digital trend tracker comScore in its newly launched Mobile Metrix 2.0 index, which looks at the behaviour of adult US smartphone subscribers using Android, iOS and RIM devices. In its first report, which analysed the activities of approximately 97 million users across mobile sites and mobile apps in March 2012, comScore discovered that 94 million accessed Google sites - a 96.9 per cent reach.
Facebook is nearest rival
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the next largest site was leading social media portal Facebook with 78 million visitors, or an 80.4 per cent reach. This was followed by Yahoo sites with 66.2 million (68.2 per cent), Amazon sites with 44 million (45.4 per cent) and Wikimedia Foundation sites with 39.1 million (40.3 per cent).
Daniel Nolan, managing director at theEword, said: "It's no secret that Google has access to a huge potential smartphone audience thanks to its Android operating system. However, these independent figures show just how well the company is managing to convert that potential audience into actual visits - and demonstrate that Google is invaluable to most iOS and RIM users as well."
