The launch of Apple’s iPhone 4 is upon us and already complaints from new customers have been rolling in. With eager fans queuing for hours outside stores to get their hands on the new model, news of reception problems and screen discoloration will maybe come as a disappointment to those still yet to purchase a model.
The latest iPhone went on sale at 07:00am this morning and has triggered queues of over 600 people outside Apple’s flagship store in London.
The new phone boasts a number of improvements on the older models; at 9.3mm it is four per cent thinner than the iPhone 3GS and the newer handset benefits from a larger sensor. The device will also have a better battery meaning that talk time will be increase by 40 per cent and browsing time will go up to six hours. All of the latest iPhones will also come with Apple’s new iOS 4.
For some however, excitement over the new model may be dulled by increasing complaints and reports of problems from customers.
Discolouration and reception issues
Reports that Apple has been facing serious issues with its ‘Retina Display’ have been verified, with many iPhone 4 owners complaining of yellow discolouration on the display. The yellow tint has been reported to take the shape of a spot or line and has been seen before in 27-inch iMacs. It is not yet known what is causing the issue.
The second major concern reported revolves around the iPhone 4’s reception. The handset's stainless steel case is used as an antenna; intended to improve reception, download speed and call quality. However, many users are protesting that the device suffers a severe drop in reception if it is held by its sides. In some cases, the phone has been reported as losing signal completely.
In further disappointing news, expectant iPhone 4 fans have also been told that the white version of the device will now not be available until late July. In a press release issued by Apple yesterday, the company stated that delays in the product’s release were down to manufacturing difficulties. "White models of Apple’s new iPhone 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July," the press release explained.
"The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected."
