Google to refresh its search pages
The Google search algorithm is to be updated again in the coming months, with an emphasis placed upon providing semantic search results.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Google search executive Amit Singhal stated that results will aim to be more relevant to a search query. Singhal said that from the inclusion of semantic results, Google is aiming for its search engine to look like “how humans understand the world”.
Alongside Google examining web pages for keywords, it will now begin to explore for related information on a subject. Through recognising the actual meaning of a query, a results page will then be able to offer key attributes related to the search alongside the top ranking web pages.
Google search changes
Google has been working on creating a database of connected places, people and locations for its semantic search. From this, a search result will show all relevant entities connected to a query. A number of changes have been rolled out and are currently included in Google search. When searching for an author, there is a small area dedicated to thumbnail images that link to their books. This is also the case for artists, music performers and actors.
The Google search algorithm is constantly developed in an attempt to improve users’ search experience. While the new batch of updates are already beginning to appear in search results, Singhal suggested that it could take up to a year for Google to enter the “next generation of search” that it has envisioned.

The incorporation of semantic search results will allow users to find required information quicker and easier as most relevant information and entities will appear in the search results.”
