Michael Thornton first started working for theEword as a freelance writer in 2010. However, his work was so impressive that he was taken on in a full-time capacity two months later. A graduate in English, Michael has held positions in both SEO and journalism for numerous websites including Digital Spy. He has also worked both on-stage and off at Manchester's Frog & Bucket comedy club, and still performs regularly around the country whenever time allows.

Ideally, Michael would like to write for a living from home, or at the very least a remote area away from hassle and "the noisy dogs". He believes everyone has a great book in them, and would like to release his first novel before he is 35, although he admits he still won't have a clue about anything even then.

When away from his keyboard, Michael likes to collect wrestling figures. He has a collection of more than 300 WWE figures, with his specialist area being the 1990-1994 Hasbro line. More recently, he has been concentrating on amassing every figure of 1990s wrestler The Ultimate Warrior ever made. So far he has 12, and displays them in a collection also including the rare Ultimate Warrior jigsaw and Ultimate Warrior ink-stamp.

Michael also likes to read, and is currently reading books by writers largely considered to be misogynist. Bukowski, Houellebecq and Fante are among his favourites, but he also likes books about football.

A varied taste in music has rung in Michael's ears for many years. Cher is probably his favourite artist of the last century, followed closely by Bob Dylan, REM, Tina Turner, Tom Waits and Swedish power-pop combo Roxette. In terms of television, Michael has an extensive knowledge of 1990s teen serial Saved By The Bell but, when it comes to comedy, he says "there is only Seinfeld".
