UK iPad orders begin
Pre-order a UK iPad from today
Apple has started taking UK iPad pre-orders.
More than 1 million iPads have already been shifted in the US since the much-hyped tablet went onsale there on April 3rd 2010. And the unexpectedly high demand prompted Apple to push back the international launch date by a month. From today, however, buyers can finally pre-order the iPad in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Canada, Japan and Australia. Pre-orders will be delivered by May 28th 2010.
UK iPad prices
Six versions will be available at launch with the following UK iPad prices:
- iPad Wi-Fi 16GB – £429
- iPad Wi-Fi 32GB – £499
- iPad Wi-Fi 64GB – £599
- iPad Wi-Fi + 3G 16GB – £529
- iPad Wi-Fi + 3G 32GB – £599
- iPad Wi-Fi + 3G 64GB – £699
Many prospective buyers have expressed frustration that UK iPad prices are considerably higher than their US counterparts. For instance, @plip tweeted from Manchester this morning, asking “16 GB wifi ipad in the US is $499 (£335) why are Apple charging £429 for it here?”. Nevertheless, @CoffeeandJack, @Jamesabeth and @phil_tate are among the Manchester residents tweeting to say they will be getting an iPad at launch.
In related news, Apple has also confirmed details for phase three of the iPad rollout. The tablet will be launched in Ireland, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand and Mexico in July. Prices and pre-order plans for these countries have yet to be announced.
