Google to focus on premium Business Apps

Premium Google Business Apps

Google has announced that it has discontinued its free Business Apps to concentrate on the premium paid service.

When Google first launched its advanced version of Apps for Business, it decided to keep the free basic package. However, as businesses have been outgrowing the basic service and requiring the additional storage and support available in the paid-for service, Google has decided to suspend the free Apps all together.

Google has made this move to concentrate on its paid-for package, improving the quality of its user experience and providing a higher level of support.

Clay Bavor, Director of Product Management at Google Apps, said: “With focus we’ll be able to do even more for our business customers. We’re excited about the opportunity to push Google Apps further so our customers can do what matters most to them.”

A paid-for service

Businesses of any size can pay $50 per user, per year for a premium subscription to Google Apps for Business. This includes 24/7 phone support, a 25GB inbox and 99.9 percent uptime with no scheduled downtime.

Google has said that existing customers are able to continue using the free package, or upgrade to the premium package if they outgrow the basic Business Apps. Alternatively, they can create a free personal Google Account in order to use web apps including Gmail and Google Drive.

Adrian Mursec, senior developer at theEword, said: “As over 5 million businesses use Google Apps, offering only a paid-for version and drawing consumers to use Google Drive is likely to be a profitable move for the search giant.”
