Microsoft wins B2B gong
Microsoft has been named the UK’s leading business brand.
For the last eight years, the Superbrands group has released the Top 50 Business Superbrands Survey. The comprehensive study, compiled by The Centre for Brand Analysis (TCBA), takes into account the views of B2B marketing experts and more than 1,700 UK business professionals.
The winners and losers
Microsoft emerged as the number one B2B brand in the UK, rising from fourth place a year earlier. But Google experienced a tougher 12 months, falling from top spot to fifth. Meanwhile, Blackberry made it three technology companies in the top ten, having experienced a meteoric rise from 42nd in 2009 to third in the latest survey.
Stephen Cheliotis, chief executive officer of the TCBA, remarked on the fact that technology giants have dominated the B2B survey in recent years. “Once again, Microsoft and Google have proved their potency by fighting it out for the top spots, whilst many other brands have reaffirmed their consistent performance year on year,” he said.
Microsoft celebrates double success
The B2B results are mirrored in the B2C sector. In the Top 50 Consumer Superbrands Survey, Microsoft has been awarded top spot after pushing Google into third. Apple ranked ninth overall in the B2C rankings.
Microsoft has been revitalising several core areas of its business in recent months. Last summer, the new search engine Bing was praised as a big step up from MSN Live Search. Windows 7 also proved to be a popular successor to the Vista operating system. And Windows Phone 7 Series has been tipped to make a bigger impression than Windows Mobile after a warmly received launch at the Mobile World Congress 2010.
