Manchester Evening News iPhone app claims victory
Manchester Evening News releases iPhone app data
The Manchester Evening News has hailed the success of its innovative iPhone application. The app, which gives users the chance to read the paper’s current news, sport and business headlines, has been downloaded 6,700 times since its launch in October.
The application, which is available for free from the Apple store, offers users the chance to share articles via email, Twitter and Facebook. The Manchester Evening News claims the software is downloaded 900 times per week.
Mark Baker, theEword marketing manager, said there were a number of reasons for the app’s success. He said:
“Free-to-download news applications, such as the one offered by the Manchester Evening News, are very popular. Users may not have the opportunity to purchase a copy of a newspaper and this iPhone app allows local residents to keep in touch with news which is important to them.”
“Furthermore, the application also has an interesting social aspect, offering the chance for individuals to share news and stories. This has the potential to drive additional traffic to the main Manchester Evening News website.”
Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News has continued its extensive social media marketing strategy with live coverage of the 28th annual theatre awards. The paper, which previously received acclaim for its use of Twitter to report instantly on local events, claimed over 1,200 users followed the story on its homepage.
