Google unveils its top reasons for blocking ads
Rigorous standards for sites and ads
Google has named the top three reasons it has for disabling sites and blocking ads when reviewing content on the web.
AdWords Community Lead Courtney Pannell posted a Hangout outlining why the search engine giant enforces such rigorous standards. Google staff member Ly stated that: “Users want ads that are useful and provide relevant information. We want users to be able to use Google and click on any ads that interest them with confidence.”
Google will crawl an advertiser’s site and build up a store of information. If content is detected that violates Google’s policies, the site is then disabled with any ads pointing to it blocked.
Top 3 reasons for blocking ads
In the Google Hangout, the most common causes of sites being disabled and ads being blocked were also named, which include:
- Bridge pages: Where websites send people to another site, driving traffic from compliant to non-compliant content.
- Information harvesting: Sites created with the sole purpose of collecting personal information.
- User safety: Google wants to protect users from sites that seem deceptive or misleading.
The Google Hangout also gave the Google AdWords staff members the opportunity to clearly outline how to rectify a suspension. By reviewing the policies in place and identifying the reason for a disablement, and then making any necessary changes, Google can then be contacted for a re-review of the site and ads.
Natalie Booth, head of search at theEword, has said: “Google has strict yet necessarily high standards when it comes to sites and ads, as the search engine giant only wants to provide its users with quality, relevant web content. By carefully adhering to these principles, your sites and ads should be able to continue performing well with no disruption or suspension.”
