DuckDuckGo launches new mobile app
Search & Stories
DuckDuckGo has launched a new mobile app Search & Stories for iOS and Android.
Similar to the web based search engine, the app allows its users to search anonymously, bringing private search to Android smartphones and iPhones. It does not choose to collect and share any personal information, differing from other search engines and sites.
Gabriel Weinberg, CEO and founder of DuckDuckGo, has said: “DuckDuckGo Search & Stories recreates the web search experience on your iPhone or iPod touch, enabling you to search anonymously and find instantly.”
‘Search anonymously. Find instantly. Stay informed. ‘
The app also aims to combine both search and stories into a single place. When talking about the arrangement, Weinberg said: “We’re making search easy, convenient and safe and pairing it with interesting stories”.
The new app comes with instant answers along with an Autocomplete service that is able to complete your queries. There is also a ‘!bang’ feature that gives users the opportunity to search directly on other sites.
This search function is then combined with news stories that have evidence of strong social interest. All the content shown is made entirely unique and features compelling images, complete with a readability view for a fast and consistent experience.
Natalie Booth, head of search at theEword, said: “In light of recent search privacy issues, where it has been suggested that the PRISM surveillance programme has resulted in personal data being mined from a number of sites, DuckDuckGo provides concerned people with an alternative for web and mobile based search.”
