Facebook unveils redesigned News Feed
Come see the new look
Facebook has announced plans to roll out a redesigned homepage at its press event named ‘Come See a New Look for News Feed’.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the remodelled News Feed has had a visual overhaul, including the introduction of larger images. With such visually oriented feeds as the Facebook-owned Instagram gaining growing attention, it appears that Facebook is shifting its focus by also making photos more prominent on the site and mobile app.
The Facebook News Feed redesign also includes four new feeds that focus on music, photos, trending topics and friends. These changes have been implemented to decrease clutter and rebuild how users see stories so that they can focus on specific content.
When speaking about the News Feed redesign, Zuckerberg said: “What we’re trying to do is give everyone in the world the best personalised newspaper we can.”
Fortune favours the bold
Facebook first redesigned its homepage in 2006, which was initially met with panic and frustration. This time round, it has plenty of reason to try and avoid a similar reaction, as with 1 billion users and advertisers using social media marketing in their strategies, the site needs to remain innovative without causing people to complain.
Product vice president Chris Cox has said that the roll out will be “slow” and “cautious”. Yet, the poster at the press event claiming ‘Fortune Favours The Bold’ suggests that Facebook does not see resting on its laurels as an option, as complacency can often be a threat to businesses.
Adrian Mursec, senior developer at theEword, said: “This willingness to make necessary tweaks in order to refresh and revive Facebook could help to protect it from becoming outdated, as it makes the effort to evolve and keep up with other newer, popular social media.”
